It feels like it’s been forever since my last Design Wars battle! I couldn’t wait to get back into it and let me tell you, I picked the perfect time to jump back in. I had the joy of working with Valley Yarns Superwash yarn but before I dote on that let me tell you about my NEW pattern!
Let me introduce to you My Leisure Poncho.
I’m so excited about this design! It’s the first larger scale pattern I’ve designed for me shop and I was determined to get over my fear of large projects. I’m so glad I did! I set a goal to create a modern look to the poncho that’s easy to create, has amazing texture, and tons of wear-ability. I think I did that with My Leisure Poncho!
This pattern is so versatile too. I’ve added notes to show you how to customize the perfect size for you or the lucky person you have in mind for it! I have one in the works right now for my daughter who is 18 months old. EEEK…so cute!!
You can turn the poncho for a more cowl/poncho look also! It’s so cozy, you may not want to take it off. 😉
I REALLY hope you like it!!! Comment below and tell me what you think! I’d love to hear. 🙂
Now through Saturday 2/20/16 you can get the pattern for 50% OFF using coupon code DWSALE.

Have you used Valley Yarns Superwash before?? If not…here’s why you have to give it a try!
I already had an idea of what I wanted to make for my DW Challenge so I was on the hunt for a specific yarn that would fit my design and it did not disappoint. This was my first time using Valley Yarns but after working with it, I’m all in! I’m actually excited to have a couple of balls left so I can make a hat for myself.
I would say it’s true to its #4 weight. I used an I 5.5mm hook with it and the stitch definition came out beautifully. It comes in 27 different bright and modern colors giving you all kinds of inspiration to pull from.
This yarn has a beautiful bounce to it that makes it perfect for garments. It’s soft and cozy and creates a gorgeous drape, making you want to put on whatever you made, immediately! Since it is a superwash yarn (meaning it’s a merino wool that you can wash normally without fear of felting), it’s perfect for garments, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, baby items and blankets/afghans, anything that might need to be washed multiple times. That’s why I chose to use it for my poncho. I needed an easy no fuss yarn and this fit the bill.
My one complaint, I should say it’s more of a downfall, is that this yarn only comes in 97 yd balls. So for larger items, like my poncho, you need a lot of balls to complete the project which turns into a lot of ends to weave in. I wish it came in a larger yardage. I suggest doing some research just to make sure that you’re ordering enough yarn for your project. As much as I hate weaving in my ends, (Is there actually anyone who likes it??), I’m still a huge fan of this yarn and I can’t wait to use it again!
Until next time!
